Where to Find the Best Pizza in New York City

Lombardi’s pizza is not only delicious, but it’s also historical! They started as a grocery store in 1897 originally selling tomato pies. After receiving a restaurant license, Gennaro Lombardi opened his New York pizzeria in 1905.  

Located in Manhattan’s famous Little Italy, they serve up smoky-crusted coal oven baked pizza, topped with San Marzano tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and basil.


Totonno’s is another long-standing New York tradition. Located on Coney Island, the pizzeria was opened by an alumnus of Lombardi’s.

This pizzeria is best known for its classic Italian Margherita pizza with a thin crust, a not-too-sweet tomato sauce, and slices of fresh mozzarella.

Best Pizza

Best Pizza may not have the most unique name, but you’ll have to decide if it’s the most accurate! Located in Brooklyn, this pizzeria is newer than the others, opening in 2010.

Best Pizza is known for its famous white slice. Owner Frank Pinello tops his white pizza with creamy ricotta, sweet caramelized onions with a crust decorate with crunchy sesame seeds.


John’s of Bleeker Street was founded in 1929 by Italian immigrant John Sasso. John’s pizzeria still uses the same recipe that they did back in the twenties. Cheese is placed on top of the pie first, followed by tomato sauce.

They are best known for their coal-fired pizza’s that are made six at a time in their brick oven that has been used for decades. The restaurant is living history that still uses booths and tables that go back decades.


Roberta’s is another newcomer to the New York Pizza area. Established in 2008 in Bushwick Brooklyn.

You’ll want to try their famous Brooklyn-Neapolitan style pies. Roberta’s also serves up some non-pizza dishes like their Italian combo sandwich or their spaccatelli pasta.
